Story


Bikash Devkota
Bikash is from Karnali Zone, Kalikote district which is situated in far western part of Nepal. It is a very backward mountainous region. Bikash’s father and mother both died. Father died with malarial infection and mother died right after she gave birth to him. There is painful story of his mother. She had gone to the rice field to plant rice on and she gave birth to Bikash. While she was working on the field, there were no hospitals. Any kind of health assistance was not available. She could not get proper help so she died on the rice field.  Poverty and lack of education are villager’s misfortunes over there. Bikash never got a chance for breast feeding therefore he is very thin and suffering from low immunity. He has running nose and many other physical weaknesses. There is no help available from their relatives because they are also poor. All of his relatives blamed him to be the misfortune of his mother's death and threw him out of the home.  After three days, a women from same village found  him lying alive on the grassland. Finding him alive after three days some relatives took care of him for some years but they could not continue to care him because of their own children and family. When we were visiting there for earthquake relief program we found him.



Nawaraj is from Humla district. He has both parents but his father is crippled because he was fallen from the tree while collecting grass for his buffalo. Since the accident he cannot walk and work anymore because his backbone is broken. Nawaraj, his sister, and his brother were suffering as they tried to survive and help their father. He is very happy to be here and keeps thanking God for his grace in his life. God has a big plan in his life. His hard work is a clear sign of his bright future. We are very glad to be a part of his life.



Akhil came from Humla district which is the most backward rural part of north western Himalayas of Nepal. There is no road available, only an airplane is available for transportation which is quiet costly. His father was a farmer in the village, once he fell from the high rocky hill while collecting grass for domestic animals and he died. His mother remarried because she was young. Akhil and his one sister and a brother were suffering because of the negligence and discrimination from the step father. So than because of this they went to live with their grandparents. Now their grandparents are also so old and fighting for their own livelihood.
















Suraj is from Chitawan district which is situated in south part of Nepal. His father left the family when he was small baby and  is still out of contact. Suraj has one elder brother and a sister. His mother started to live close to her mother’s house when Suraj's father left them but she is not able to support three children with her limited income. Suraj is from a Christian family who has joined a local church.
